The Human Portrait Print Project is a very special and ongoing project that gives us a great deal of purpose. Yes, we print people, but unlike our underwater subjects, they are alive and open to share a personal, powerful and vulnerable story that we do our best to translate into our medium of nature printing.
The process is essentially the same as printing fish or any of the other subjects that we place under the paper, in that we will brush sumi ink onto our volunteer's face and then lay a sheet of paper over them to gently rub their image onto the paper. Once we achieve the face print, we then embellish the piece with things from nature that we believe best represents our subject and their story.
The process takes anywhere from a few weeks to an entire year to complete. But the results, and those that are touched by them, are more than worth the time and effort.
Ultimately, we hope to create an exhibition to showcase a community of portraits that share stories of our collective human experience.
Below are examples of our Human Portrait Prints.
